Built by a beekeeper, for beekeepers – Colin, a beekeeper from the Edinburgh area and EMBA member, built Fine Local Honey to help local producers reach neighbours and local honey lovers without building their own websites.

How it works

1

Create your profile

Tell people about your bees and your honey, upload a few photos, and choose your delivery options. Most beekeepers can do this in about 15 minutes.

2

Add your products

List your honey varieties with jar size, price, and short descriptions. Start with just one or two products if you like. Update stock levels at any time.

3

Ready to begin?

People nearby find you through search, place orders, and you handle delivery (or collection). We take care of payments in the background.

Why Fine Local Honey?

Made for small UK beekeepers

Fine Local Honey is run by a beekeeper, for beekeepers. It's designed for hobby and small-scale producers who want to sell a bit more honey without building their own website.

Competitive platform fees

Our 6% platform fee is significantly lower than Amazon (15%), eBay (13%), and Etsy (11% including payment processing). Combined with Stripe's standard processing (~2.9% + £0.29), you keep around 91% of every sale.

Built for local discovery

On Amazon or Etsy, you're competing with thousands of sellers and cheap imports. Fine Local Honey connects you with people in your area who are specifically looking for authentic local honey from nearby beekeepers. Geography is the filter, not keywords.

No monthly fees, ever

Unlike other platforms, we don't charge subscription fees. You only pay when you make a sale. No risk, no upfront costs.

Secure payments with Stripe

During onboarding you connect your bank account to Stripe (takes around 2-5 minutes). When you make a sale, money is transferred to you automatically, minus fees.

Your location privacy protected

We understand concerns about revealing exact apiary or home locations. Your exact address is never shown publicly – only an approximate area (typically within 1–2km) appears on maps. Collection addresses are only shared with customers who place collection orders.

Simple, transparent pricing

No hidden fees, no surprises. Just pay when you sell.

Common questions

Do I need my own website?

No! We create a professional producer page for you with your own URL (e.g. finelocalhoney.co.uk/producers/your-honey-name). You can share this link anywhere.

How do I get paid?

We use Stripe Connect for secure payments. Money is transferred directly to your bank account. During onboarding, you'll set up your Stripe account (takes around 2-5 minutes).

What delivery options can I offer?

Collection is the simplest option - people come to you to pick up their honey. You can also offer local delivery if you'd like (you set the area and cost), or postal delivery UK-wide. It's entirely your choice - you can keep it as simple as collection only.

Is there a minimum number of jars I need to sell?

No minimum! Sell as much or as little as you like. Update your stock levels at any time in your dashboard.

Can I try it before committing?

Absolutely. There are no set-up costs or monthly fees. Create your profile, list your products, and you only pay our platform fee when you actually make a sale. You can pause or close your account at any time.

Will customers see my exact address?

No. Your postcode appears on your profile, but we show an approximate location on the map (typically within 1–2km) to protect your privacy. Customers only receive your exact collection or delivery address after they've placed an order with you.

I'm not very technical – will I manage?

Yes. The onboarding process is designed to be straightforward. If you can send an email with a photo attachment, you can set up your profile. Most beekeepers complete it in around 15 minutes. If you get stuck, just email hello@finelocalhoney.co.uk and Colin will walk you through it.

Do I need special insurance?

You should have public liability insurance for your beekeeping activities, which you likely already have through SBKA, BBKA or WBKA membership. This platform doesn't change your insurance requirements. The honey you sell must meet the same labelling and food safety standards as if you were selling at a market.
